We are pleased to announce preparations of the grounds are beginning to start on our Stonehills site located by Avalanche Road. The project was originally planned for June but Albion Stone took the precautionary decision to delay the works due to the potential high levels of breeding activity of Skylarks.
Our main contractors, Woodmace Ltd will be working on site to start preparations for the opening of our new Stonehills mine which we aim to open late next year. This first phase involves mainly preparations of the excavation site, including the removal of the top soil and overburden. Prior to the commencements of works Albion Stone ensured all necessary steps were taken; all ecologist surveys have been conducted and an archaeologist is in attendance for all site stripping at all times.
We aim to open the new mine in late 2016, initially mining the Whitbed faces. Once we begin to extract Whitbed to create the mine faces, we should be able to get an indication of the characteristics of the stone. Albion Stone intend to supply customers with samples of the stone in early 2016. With Stonehills Albion Stone will have three operational mines and Stonehills has the potential to provide us with as much as 250,000 cubic metres of prestigious Portland Stone.
Albion Stone, a fourth generation family business pride ourselves on having a helpful and skilled workforce as well as modern and traditional manufacturing process to enable us to produce the highest quality Portland Stone with minimal environmental impact.
