Albion Stone the environmental choice

Albion Stone is the only company in our sector to have achieved the highest ‘Excellent’ rating in the BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products. Certificate available on request. 

We were the first stone manufacturer in England to have an independently produced, Environmental Performance Declaration (EPD) from cradle to gate for natural stone in the UK.  Our figures have been used by a number of organisations when comparing different products to stone and stone fixings systems.  Make Architects have completed research comparing embodied carbon in facade systems using the Albion Stone EPD.

We are striving to achieve a Net Zero target for our mining and factory operations without relying on carbon offsets or assuming that future renewable energy sources will solve the issue for us.

Previously, we set an ambitious goal to reduce our carbon footprint by 75% from the 2017 levels and to verify this reduction in a new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Despite some unexpected challenges, we successfully reduced our carbon footprint from 140 kg CO2 per tonne in 2017 to 44.7 kg CO2 per tonne in 2024, achieving a 68% reduction.

Based on the figures available in 2024, our carbon footprint is 80% lower than any other Portland Stone supplier and lower than any natural stone supplier worldwide that we know of.
