Local People and Community

Albion Stone has always taken it's role in the local community seriously and in 1995 we started the process of switching 300 years of quarrying Portland Stone to mining.  We began in Bowers Mine in 2002 and by 2015 all stone was being extracted from the mines.  Mining rather than quarrying reduces landscape impact, noise, dust, vibration from explosives, and by leaving millions of tonnes of overburden undisturbed means that it has reduced our carbon footprint by nearly 50%.

Albion Stone are pleased to accommodate, where possible, visits from local schools, colleges, and universities, to hold open days for the local community to see our operations and support local charities.  We are particularly pleased to be working with the Memo project to deliver a world class visitor attraction in our Jordans Mine and construct a tower on the cliff edge at the Bowers Quarry.
