20 Gracechurch Street is situated on an island site in the heart of the City at the intersection of Lombard Street and Gracechurch Street. The building, has one of the City of London’s most prominent towers.
The building comprises of offices on 1st to 16th floors and three retail units on the ground and lower ground floors. It has been comprehensively refurbished, including a transformed new facade on the ground to third floors, designed by ORMS Architects.
Albion Stone supplied 2,500m² of cladding covering six floors. The total stone provided was 650m³ at a cost of £1.4 million.
Grove Whitbed was chosen as the plinth because the Architect had concerns about the cleaner Portland Stone potentially getting marked, especially from the soles of shoes as people leaned against the side of the building.
Albion Stone, a fourth generation family business pride ourselves on having a helpful and skilled workforce as well as modern and traditional manufacturing process to enable us to produce the highest quality Portland Stone with minimal environmental impact.
