Scope of Project:
Create two large garden sculptures.
The Portland Limestone sculptures of Diana and Bacchus have been sent to America to be placed 200m apart in a private garden in Virginia.
They are the work of Andrian Melka, a former head sculptor in Dick Reid’s workshop in York and now running a workshop in Bugthorpe, York.
The commission came about through people who knew people, says Andrian, starting with the sale of a sculpture of Neptune that went to a professor in London.
Andrian was approached by an architect working for media magnate Conrad Black, who wanted a bigger Neptune, and as a result these two pieces were commissioned.
Albion Stone supplied two pieces of Portland Independent Basebed sawn three sides for the sculptures. One 1250x1050x450mm and the other 1200x1000x450mm.
Bacchus stands 2.2m high and Diana 2m high, they can be seen from a central point in the garden. For more information, please visit: www.melkasculpture.com
