Scope of Project:
Refurbishment of existing building.
The transformation of Norfolk House involved constructing a new 8-storey commercial office building, complete with the reconstruction of two brick and Portland Stone facades. Additionally, the project required further excavation to expand the basement depth.
Putney & Wood were the appointed stone contractor. The original Portland Stone was delicately removed from the structure and transported to Albion Stone's factory for careful examination. Whenever feasible, the stones were trimmed and repurposed for use in the building. For those deemed unsuitable for reuse, new stones were employed to maintain a seamless integration with the existing aesthetic.
The 99,605 square foot building, designed by MAKE architects, is striving to meet rigorous environmental criteria to attain a BREEAM excellent rating.
Albion Stone supplied stones from the Jordans Whitbed and Jordans Basebed, as they closely matched the stones removed from the existing building.
Albion Stone, a fourth generation family business pride ourselves on having a helpful and skilled workforce as well as modern and traditional manufacturing process to enable us to produce the highest quality Portland Stone with minimal environmental impact.
