Scope of Project:
Two Carved Pillars and two carved roundels
This project, being the winner at the Stone Federations Natural Stone Show 2020 consists of two carved pillars and two carved roundels.
The pillars are formed with a Kilkenny limestone plinth and a decorative Portland Stone top. The two limestones were chosen to match the contrast of the main property.
The Portland Stone roundels feature a distinctive green man with words from Gawain and the green knight and Yggdrasil, the Viking tree of life with Norse words.
The Sphere depicts a tree of life, sun and moon and the main feature is a horned Green man. The cube is carved with words from Ilaid. The Pillars are a simple splayed design with an emblem carved on each face including—raven, holly, oak, Green man, cross, stag skull, shield with the pentagram and the Middleton family crest.
The Judges commented that the craftsmanship applied to each piece sparks the imagination and encourages further study of the subjects depicted.
